1. Visit Machu Picchu - Obviously, you can't leave the Sacred Valley without a visit to this magnificent World Wonder. While there are many ways to visit the site (train and bus to the top, multi-day trek, one-day hike), I highly recommend doing this as a one-day hike. If you are limited on time, it is a great way to both visit Machu Picchu and have the opportunity to hike on the stunning Inca Trail. View my detailed post on hiking Machu Picchu in a day here.
2. Book a one in a lifetime dining experience at MIL - One of the best dining experiences I've ever had. It is remote and not exactly easy to get to - it is located in the Sacred Valley overlooking the ruins of Moray. Reservations are recommended well in advance (you also will need to pre-pay), and I also suggest you secure transportation through your hotel or a taxi service ahead of time - your driver will wait for you while you eat and then take you back to your hotel. Reservations are only available during the daytime so you can enjoy the courtyard, ruins and mountain views. MIL offers a set menu, and you are able to add beverage pairings as well (which were insanely delicious!), and the food tasted just as amazing as it looked.
3. Stay in a private casita at the Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba - Tucked away in the remote hills of the Sacred Valley. Opt for a casita, which are private cabins that are a short walk from the main lodge with stunning mountain views. Read my full review of this incredible luxury hotel here.
4. Take in views over Cusco at Limbus Resto Bar - A nice place to stop for coffee or lunch when exploring the San Blas neighborhood - great views over Cusco.
5. Get your exercise walking the steep streets in Cusco's Central Historic District - Everything in this central district is easily walkable. Wander the windy streets of San Blas and stop into some of the many shops and cafes.
6. Centro de Textiles Tradicionales del Cusco - Learn about traditional textiles, observe Andean weavers, shop for beautiful handmade goods, or even attend a workshop at this non-profit organization. Located in both Cusco and The Sacred Valley.
7. Take in the architecture at the Convento de la Merced, which was practically empty since it's not a main tourist stop (don't know why though!).
8. Stop for a snack at the San Pedro market
9. Stargazing in the Sacred Valley - Our hotel offered a guided night hike, but seeing the stars in the Sacred Valley any way you can is a must! We were lucky to have a very clear view of the Milky Way. Unfortunately, my iPhone camera captured none of this :)
