Top Things To Do in Hong Kong

1. Victoria Peak

The tram to the top of Victoria Peak can have very long lines, so either go early or take a taxi to the top and take the tram down. The viewing deck on top has magnificent views of the city and Victoria Harbour.

2. Star Ferry

Whether you are staying on Hong Kong Island or Kowloon, take the very inexpensive Star Ferry across Victoria Harbour to explore the other side - and get some amazing skyline views from the water.

3. Eat as much dim sum as you possibly can

I came to Hong Kong in my mid 20s and this was my first experience with amazing dim sum. Safe to say it was love at first...bite? There are so many great options in this city, just make sure you try multiple places - one of my personal favorites was LEI Garden, which we stumbled upon after getting lost and ending up in a shopping center (yes, that can happen easier than you would think in Hong Kong!!).

4. Day trip to Lantau Island to see Tian Tan Buddha

It is fairly straightforward and not overly time consuming to take public transit (MTR) to Lantau Island. From the stop, you can take a 20-30 minute ride in a cable car up to the Tian Tan Buddha which is a fun experience in itself. Lantau Island is scenic, although visibility wasn't great the day we went.

5. Wong Tai Sin Temple

Take the MTR to Wong Tai Sin Temple, which is a beautiful Taoist temple that is ~30 minutes from Central Hong Kong.

6. Nan Lian Garden

From Wong Tai Sin Temple (#5 above), we walked to Nan Lian Garden, which is a quiet and tranquil escape in the city. Take the MTR back to Central Hong Kong.

7. Day trip to Macau

If you love the glitz and glamour of casinos, this is an easy day trip from Hong Kong on a speed ferry (~1 hour). The casinos are ornate but are much more quiet and subdued than, say, Las Vegas. Many years ago, Macau was a Portuguese colony and its Portuguese influence can still be seen in its architecture, ruins and food.

8. Purchase an express-made custom suit

Pick out all your fabrics, get fitted and stop in for at least one additional fitting during your trip, and your suit can be ready to take home before you leave. We went to Sam's Tailor, and had a great experience - my husband actually wore his custom suit from Sam's at our wedding!
